Kachemak Bay Sea Kayaking . . .
is as good as it gets and Otter Cove Resort is the
best place in the bay to start a paddling trip. Otter Cove is located in
Eldred passage
inside of
Hesketh, Yukon, and Cohen Islands. Surrounded by Kachemak Bay State Park,
the cove is close to the mouth of Sadie Cove and Tutka Bay, providing many
miles of protected paddling. Our kayak base is located right at Otter Cove
for your convenience. We offer guided day trips, rentals, and multiple day
trips. Many of our guests take a guided trip the first day, stay in our
beautiful cabins, and just rent kayaks for the following days.
(see chart)
Guided Day Trips
Our guided adventures begin at 9:30 a.m. at our
Homer Spit office with check in, final payment, and review and signing of
our liability waiver. At 10:00 AM we will water taxi you from the Homer small
boat harbor to Otter Cove Resort. Once there your guide will get you
fitted into a life jacket and spray skirt,
and
familiarize you with the kayak and safety procedures. We use Necky Alsek,
Kyook, and Amaruk kayaks, they are extremely stable and fun to paddle. All
of our kayaks have rudders for your convenience, we use Perception and
Werner paddles, Perception life jackets, and spray skirts. After your
orientation, you and your guide will paddle from Otter Cove in the
direction chosen for the day. The bay is rich with wildlife and awesome
scenery. You will need to bring a lunch to enjoy midday on a scenic beach.
Around 4:00 p.m. you will return to Otter Cove and will return to the
Homer small boat harbor via water taxi at 5:15. Bathroom facilities are
available at Otter Cove and the Kayak Beach Trailhead. In the event you
become tired before the end of the trip, you are welcome to return to
Otter Cove to hike or just relax and enjoy the view. Guests may also stay
for dinner at The Rookery Restaurant and catch a later boat to Homer. The price for this
full day adventure including round trip water taxi, kayak and gear, and
guide service, is $130 pp plus tax with group discounts available. Half
day trips are available for a minimum of four people at $100 pp plus tax with
group discounts available.

We have single and double Necky kayaks available for
rent by the day and for multiple days. Kayaks come complete with paddle,

all rentals. Kayaks are available from the Otter Cove kayak base or as
